What is the state of the Wesnoth package maintainer?

The current wesnoth in the Arch repos is 1.4.7. The current wesnoth stable is 1.5.3. Does the maintainer need any help or has he/she just not gotten around to it yet? I can help if needed.

Personally, I have no problem running 1.4.7, except for MP 153 is what many are using.

Errmm... 1.5 branch is development, not stable, so wesnoth is at the latest stable release.

Also, there are packages in AUR: wesnoth-devel, wesnoth-svn - which can suit you.
