Just installed FTP version of Arch 2009 on a JFS partition. Machine is p4 2.0 +/- GHz with one PATA drive. Disabled SATA and SCSI in mkcpio.conf, if that's relevant. Other than that it's a pretty standard install. Followed same steps I usually do.
Upon first post-install reboot, system hung after a series of
init: cannot execute "/sbin/agetty"
messages. This is followed by
respawning too fast :disable for 5 minutes
messages.
Found very little info on this on google.
I've been distro-hopping for about 3 years now. Tried Arch all last winter. So I'm fairly familiar with Arch, the command line, and Linux in general. Far from an expert tho LOL!

Maybe it's just a typo but if you have a PATA drive why would you disable PATA in mkinitcpio.conf? Did you mean SATA?

Yeah, that was supposed to read SATA, not PATA... Typo has been fixed
