I have no need to run samba server, and I see smb.conf is needed by smbclient which is a dependency for kde, so I have smbclient installed as a dependency for kde now i removed the folder /etc/samba and since I need a good program to connect to my NAS shares I downloaded smb4k, after I start smb4k and ask it to browse the network it tell me i do not have smb.conf now I am puzzled as smb.conf is made by samba which I do not have anyway.
Can someone educate me on this?

The clue is in your message; you removed the /etc/samba directory, which is where smb.conf is normally located.
But I cannot see smbclient creating the smb.conf file during it's install process. So I suspect that if you only installed smbclient, but not samba itself, you might not have had this file anyway.
I think you need to reinstall smbclient, and if that fails to create smb.conf then try installing samba too. This file is needed because smb4k is just a front-end for samba itself; (at least according to this: http://smb4k.berlios.de/download.html).

well that exactly is what my problem is if someone just installs smbclient which is also a dependency fro kde (samba is not) so the user will only have smbclient and no initial config file so how would someone know how to set it up?
so my question is why does smbclient make the directory /etc/samba and put a default config file just like samba does
