DPMS in console

Hi,

How can I set the monitor to powerdown after (for example) 10 minutes of inactivity. I have tried:

# setterm -blank 5 -powersave powerdown -powerdown 10

The monitor blanks, but never goes into standby mode. I have even tried following the advice here: http://alexis.m2osw.com/console.html

Note: Powersave works when X is running, so I know it isn't a problem with my hardware.

Any hints/ideas will be appreciated.

You can see if the other thread on the subject helps:

Re: DPMS in console

Are you using the vesa driver by any chance?  Vesa never blanks for me.

Re: DPMS in console

I've tried the the things mentioned in the other threads, `vbetool dpms off` just blocks, never exists and doesn't seem to do anything.

I am using the vesafb driver, and nvidia graphics cards. powersave hasn't worked for about 3 years for me now, and has never worked whilst using Arch.
