Upgrade from i686 to x86_64

Hello,

I bought some new RAM and would like to utilize the whole thing. Therefore I'm considering to switch to 64bit.

What is the easiest way of getting the good ol' system but just with x86_64 packages?

Will applications like MATLAB still work?

Thanks for your help!

There was a forum post not too long ago about someone who did exactly this.  He explained exactly how he did it.  You may want to search for that.

Locking to keep to posts in the other thread. Mainly because the answer(s) are there.
