[Eee 1000HE] Anyone tried arch on it?

I did a quick boot from an ubuntu live usb drive, looks like everything works well hardware wise other than the ath9k problems in the 2.6.28 kernel.

I might wait to see if the acpi scripts need updating for the 1000HE, since battery life was the main reason I wanted it.

Anyone have thoughts or recommendations?

Yes, I just wanted to know if anyone ran into any unforseen problems on the new processor and hardware.

Re: [Eee 1000HE] Anyone tried arch on it?

I just got one today. So far I haven't had any trouble.

The ethernet and wireless drivers were all there and ready to go (Note: I am using the 2.6.28* kernel). I also swapped out the 160 GB HD with a 32 GB SSD, and that was also no problem. I am about to setup sound and then I am going to look into getting the webcam to work, but after a cursory search I didn't see any information on what kind of webcam this thing has. After that I'll look into getting all of the keys and lights working as expected. As far as basic functionality though, not a single issue. smile

Re: [Eee 1000HE] Anyone tried arch on it?

The webcam was detected and runs no problem, as did the sound (though I did notice that the Fn+F10 (mute) shortcut did not mute the right thing to turn off the sound. The muting is controlled (apparently) by a switch called iSpeaker, and the mute hotkey switches the default mixer to muted - which does not actually seem to do anything. I did see a fix for this online, but I forget the link and haven't bothered with it yet. The microphones work fine. The Fn+F2 (wifi) hotkey doesn't seem to work out of the box for me, and that is my next goal to get working.

Does anyone know if there is any point in using toofishes' eeepc kernel?

Also does anyone know if the acpi scripts are working or needed? It seems as if some of the hotkey functionality is supported by the kernel.

I'll hopefully be getting my eeepc 1000he tomorrow (unlikely) or Thursday!

I'm also curious about using toofishes' eeepc kernel. I'm going to try to pick one of these up locally, but will probably be ordering one from new egg.

Re: [Eee 1000HE] Anyone tried arch on it?

Just notes on whats working and what not:

The acpi-eeepc-generic scripts work on either kernel
-the bluetooth script needs to be patched (See: http://code.google.com/p/acpi-eeepc-gen … ail?id=14)
-Events File for 1000HE (See attached file: http://code.google.com/p/acpi-eeepc-gen … ail?id=16)
-might need to change mappings to met your needs (ex: EEEPC_USER3=$KEY_Fn_Space)

Kernel 2.6.28.7:
  -Wifi switching does not work
  -Bluetooth switching does not work

Kernel 2.6.29-rc7:
-Hot Keys/Function Keys do not work [except Fn+F1 (Sleep)] http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12831

Suspend works however use pm-suspend instead of the script in acpi-eeepc-generic. With the acpi-eeepc-generic script the machine will sometime go back into standby after exiting X!

EDIT: Rewrote whole post with new information

Re: [Eee 1000HE] Anyone tried arch on it?

Alright after looking at toofishes' kernel here are my conclusions:
   *Vanilla Kernel
*SMP support is not enabled (no hyperthreading) [why?]
*ath5k is the only wlan module (1000HE uses the ath9k module)
*some other NIC module (1000HE uses atl1e)

toofishes eee kernel will work, but you will have no lan, wlan, and it will not take advantage of hyperthreading
