booting dm-crypted USB-HDD with UUIDs

Hello,

I set up an external bootable HDD which is totally crypted (root and swap)
Only Problem:

In grub, root is root=/dev/sda3 or root=/dev/sdb3 or root=/dev/sdc3
depends of the hardware of the machine where i plug it.

A much better solution would be to use UUID of the crypted partition.
This works perfectly for bootable hdds or flash when not crypted, but Crypted it dont seem to work. It dont find it -> kernel panic

nor root=UUID=123123....
nor root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/123123....

any one has any idea or know some patch?
Another question:
In the grub console, can i check which devices are plugged?

thanks
