another xfce4.6 problems

I updated my xfce4.4 to 4.6 and some problems have appeared:

- broken icons in xfce menu (i see just a little white icon with red cross),quick launch icons in panel are really invisible..
- right click on desktop doesn't do anything, no menu pop up
- i cannt switch desktop picture via desktop settings (all i have is pure black desktop)

anybody with same problems or with solutions? .)

edit
problem with task list removed, it was my fault, sorry

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

Hi dunmer (greetings from CZ smile,
try to launch Xfce with clean home directory (or under newly created user). If problems disappear, your old config files from Xfce 4.4 conflicts the new from 4.6. You will have to delete them.

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

I also haven't some icons.
Plus, when I open settings dialog, I haven't icons for some applications (accesibility, appearance etc..).

Which files/folders I need to delete in my home folder to reset all xfce settings?

Same situation here, no icons anywhere, maybe is a problem with a package. I would search if anybody has a bug report

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

My problem appears only on my desktop where I am using xfce.
On laptop (when I have kde) I installed clean xfce4.6 and there are no problems...

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

Installing the tango icon theme gave me the missing icons in the menu.  I believe Rodent (and other themes) uses Tango as a fallback for missing icons.

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

There's a major upstream issue with icon. Simply all upstream devs use an old installation set and missed to try a fresh install. The old Rodent theme isn't fully compatible with 4.6.

As a workaround you can install gnome-icon-theme or tango-icon-theme.

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

I have the icon problem, too.

It seems that they didn't upgrade the icon theme for the new configuration.

I hope it will be fixed as soon as possible.

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

I would go with tango-icon-theme as it needs less dependencies smile
After I installed it and selected it in the options all (well ... almost all) icons came to life. Thank you for the tips big_smile

My mixer icon is messed up -- it looks like it's defaulting to mute or something?

xfce-mixer.png

I have the tango icons installed.

It's perfectly fine, it just looks less than spectacular on a dark background. See http://fijam.eu.org/other/shot.png . Also, try scrolling over it.

That's *normal???* That's the worst looking icon I've ever seen. :-o No offense, but it doesn't look much better on a light background, imo.

Do you know where the reference to the system icons are coded?

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

Well, I certainly like it more than the previous one with the slider. But de gustibus et coloribus... wink

And no, I do not know where it is coded.

Wait... does it mean that we have programs in extra, that haven't been tested by anyone, including arch devs and even upstream devs?!

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

Not exactly, from what I understand the xfce devs use/have more icon themes installed than the only one that is pulled as a dependency or from the xfce group. The latest xfce doesn't seem to play well with that icon theme, thats all. I have installed the tango theme and completely removed the one that comes with xfce and so far I'm happy.
Maybe now the tango theme should come as a dependency of xfce instead of the current xfce icon theme.

Edit:
Corrected the name of the icon theme (tango-icon-theme).

Re: another xfce4.6 problems

I think you need to have proper configuration in xorg.conf - but it strange that something happened when you updated xfce.
