(SOLVED) xfce4.6, why so fragile ?

I installed xfce4.6 freshly using pacman, but after installed, I found 2 problems:

  1. The icons are not integrated, or at most time, no icons show on panel or menu bar.
  2. When I open Thunar, it appears and disappears quickly. Why?

I am a xfce fans, since I found xfce4.4 is stable and fast. But xfce4.6 seems not.
Can somebody get me out of the problems ?

The development team is also bothered by the icons problem.

I am frustrated a little about that, but I think Xfce 4.6 is great as a whole.

Re: (SOLVED) xfce4.6, why so fragile ?

After I have firefox installed, thunar can be opened with no problem, and some icons (Rodent) appear, but some are still missing.

Re: (SOLVED) xfce4.6, why so fragile ?

Today I installed tango-icon-theme and tango-icon-theme-extras, almost the whole icon can be seen now (Tango). I tried to uninstall xfce4-icon-theme, and reboot, everything is smooth.
I guess, the Rodent icon may have some bugs in integreted with Xfce4.6.

Compositing (native aiglx from nvidia hardware) works perfectly here.

I had no icons whatsoever in XFCE until I installed shared-mime-info. Also solved the issue with Thunar.

Strange, I have just started using 4.6 and everything seems fine. No complaints here at all. In fact the composite manager seems more stable that openbox + xcompmgr

Re: (SOLVED) xfce4.6, why so fragile ?

People always forget to delete the old config files, most of the times those are to blame for problems. I'm running xfce 4.6 here and except for the icons problem everything works great. Of course I have deleted the old config files and started everything again, I know its a pain to put everything in it's place again but avoids problems.

I use Lxde instead of Xfce now. Because lxde is faster than Xfce.

Re: (SOLVED) xfce4.6, why so fragile ?

I'd echo the comment about config files... I just had to reinstall my system because something in udev borked up the whole system, and I'm betting it had to do with the config files somewhere.  On the fresh install, everything seems to work fine (except the icons, of course).

I did try out lxde out of curiosity, but it was doing funny things (task bar flickering and then disappearing entirely and such) and xfce seems a little more solid to me.
