Asus eeepc: temperature

Hi,
I wanted to ask how high your temperature on your eeepc is without load.

With 0% CPU usage I have an average temperature of: 56 C . I wanted to know if this is much/less/the same as you have with your eeepc.

I'm running the latest vanilla kernel and don't do any specific fan control on my device.

Greetings

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

My eeepc 701 has a temperature of 51° C at the moment. I think that's no temperature to worry about. I would say that it's a normal temperature. I'm using toofishes' kernel and no specific fan control. Fan don't work at the moment with this temperature.

Also /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ00/state reports "ok". So, don't worry about it.

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

Yeah, I get that when the battery charges. If it doesn't, it usually is around 50C.

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

I have the 900ha with the hard disk and I noticed sometimes with light browsing/email the temp would just sit at ~46C, but other times doing the same browsing/email it would sit at ~56C.  More often at 56C.

After only 2 weeks the fan started to make horrible noises and eventually just seized, so I disconnected it.  I was going to RMA it but they said it would take 5 weeks blah blah, so I just kept it and continued to use it.  Without the fan it only sits slightly higher at ~58C, sometimes goes to 60C if I use the hard disk alot, like copying files.  Not sure if thats bad for it but I have not noticed any problems.

I have the 1000h with harddisk but 46 C isn't a temperature I get. Maybe I will try to play with lmsensors and fancontrol.

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

I don't have an EEEpc, but my Dell Inspiron 1501 will work its way up to ~56 Celsius on 0-10% CPU usage, then the fan will kick in and the temperature will go back down to 35 Celsius, the fan will turn off, and the process repeats about every 10-15 minutes.

ALSO: Just this weekend, however, I decided to open up my Inspiron 1501 and clean it out.  I found a huge layer of dust between the fan and heatsink, significantly reducing airflow.  I cleaned that dust out and applied some Artic Silver 5 to my processor.  Before I did this, the temperatures would often go to ~65 Celsius, sometimes 70 Celsius even with my fan on.  When the temperatures cooled down, it would sit at the lowest of 43 Celsius (compared to the 35 Celsius now)  and the fan would not turn off because it onlystops spinning at around 35 Celsius.

I'm not saying this would help you much if your EEEpc is fairly new, but it sure helped my - almost 2 year old - laptop.

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

Mine runs right around the temperature too, although I have seen it anywhere from 48 to 60 or so.

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

I have a EEE900 and use toofishes's kernel. Idle temperature is 51-ish  degrees Celcius, and at max load it is 65-ish. I have no additional fancontrol or anything, just the vanilla settings.

Re: Asus eeepc: temperature

I have Asus Eeepc 1001ha and I reach 70 celsius. I don't know how to put fans on:

$ acpi -V
Adapter 0: on-line
Thermal 0: ok, 66.0 degrees C
Thermal 0: trip point 0 switches to mode critical at temperature 88.0 degrees C
Thermal 0: trip point 1 switches to mode passive at temperature 85.0 degrees C
Cooling 0: Processor 0 of 10
Cooling 1: Processor 0 of 10
Cooling 2: LCD 0 of 15

$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:        +67.0°C  (crit = +88.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0:       +43.0°C  (crit = +90.0°C)

$ fancontrol
Loading configuration from /etc/fancontrol ...
Error: Can't read configuration file

Anyone could help me?

Can I avoid poweroff because of overheating?

Thanks,
Xan.
