I have a 52x32x52 Teac cd writer, and k3b does not let me burn cd's with more than 8x.
I set the speed manually, I use 52x cdroms , and 8x for me

Have you tried using a different cd-burning app?
I mean that it might be a configuration problem with k3b or it might be a more murky issue...

i'm -Suy and k3b works fine for me (have a 10x burner and it burns also at this speed - just tested for a backup of the photos of yesterday) --- using kernel 2.6.8.1.mm4 - what kenrel do you use? what did oyu do last before the behaviour changed? (gcc? kernel? cdrdao? ?)
EDIT: i do not use cdrdao but track at once - dont use cdrdao, so maybe it's this

kernel 2.6.8.1.
gcc 3.4.2-1
cdrdao 1.1.9-1
I unchecked the cdrdao in my k3bsetup.
This is not a major problem for me, I usually write at 12x, 8x does not bother me that much, I just thought anyone else has this problem, and I want to help fix bugs.
If nobody else has this problem then ok. I have one exam left on tuesday, and I hope after that I will be able to help more :cry:

I have this problem too;
it seems that K3b max write speed is the max speed of the cdr(w) e.g. if i put in a cdrw which says "multispeed 1-4x" on the cover, my max speed is 4x
While the burner is capable of writing cdrw at 24x
Can this be turned of in K3b?

i don't know, but why would you do this? it makes sure, that your data is still readable afterwards
EDIT:
it's a feature, not a bug :-)
