i just got a new computer, and done a fresh install, i had a program installed , that i used to help me identify what "number" a key was. so that i could configure xbindkeys easyer.
the program didnt ran in X it didnt configure the file, sould just tell me what number the key i pressed was.

Well, xbindkeys has this feature.
Try running "xbindkeys -k" in a console.
