Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

Went through the same process on my second computer.  The fix had the same result as it did on my first computer, but removing everything didn't do this trick this time.  One difference:  gstreamer0.10-plugins is required for brasero which I have on this box but NOT on my first one so it didn't get removed.

I don't know if that could have anything to do with this or not.

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

I get random crashes too, but alas, I get them on Windoze, FreeBSD, and 32-bit Linux too, so whatever tongue I attribute it to general Flash crappiness. Go Gnash/swfdec.

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

Amazing!!

Flash seems to be working for now. I can Finally go to the Adobe site and you tube works also. However not sure if its related but my sound is no longer working. Not sure what happened there.

I have all the gnash apps installed. I have not uninstalled them yet since flash is working.

Edit: Fixed the sound issue. Mplayer plug-in was causing the problem. Disabled it and working good now! lol

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

Hi, I have the same issue.

Installing gnash does solve the issue of firefox crashing, but it creates a whole new issue; gnash isn't a good replacement for flash, it's useless on basically everything. For example youtube is laggy and video/sound is unsynchronized. If I uninstall gnash the crashing comes back.

I have.

model name    : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 2800+
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]

That's a family 15 cpu <-- I guess that's the issue.

Also, I can't view the bug report on the adobe page because it's not for 'general access', can anybody see it?

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

Same here, it might indicate that there is something being done about this:)

processor    : 0
vendor_id    : AuthenticAMD
cpu family    : 15
model        : 12
model name    : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+

The thing about Family 15 CPU having a problems appears to be correct

look here --> http://bugs.gentoo.org/260630

I have exactly the same problem on 64bit gentoo and arch, EMT64 Pentium processor.
The problem occurred almost the same day on both systems after an update.
I hope someone solves it soon.

If your processor doesn't support some LAHF instruction set, then flash will crash!!! It looks like adobe is not going to bother fixing this. I am crying!

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

I have this problem only since gnutls version 2.6.6. I have a P4 EM64T processor. Does that mean that I will never again have working flash on my machine?
on my Fedora and Ubuntu install flash works fine but with gnutls version before 2.6.6. This surely is terrible.

Who told you that adobe doesnt care?

is it possible that missing lahf is the problem and a bios update does the trick?

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

My Firefox randomly crashes after closing/navigating away from certain Flash things (thankfully not Youtube). Some sites it does it on are g4tv.com and criteriongames.com Does yours crash when you try to watch/load it or when you close the tab/leave the page?

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

Yup g4tv.com does the trick (tested on my notebook, arch64, turion X2), firefox ends with a segmentation fault after closing the tab with that page, didn't try the other page but I guess the result will be the same.

This is what I get when running firefox from the cli:

$ firefox
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so [/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32]

(after allowing the video on the main page I get loads of this warning)

(firefox:7864): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

(after browsing to videos and watching one video and closing the tab)

Segmentation fault

I'm starting to believe Ranguvar's theory: general flash crappiness tongue
The other pages mentioned before all work fine for me though (even the one on the gentoo bug).

For people missing the lahf instruction I have a workaround, that I posted on the Gentoo bug tracker: flashplugin-lahf-fix.c. It's a bit of a kludge but it works flawlessly.

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

@maksverver

Brilliant fix! I've been wrestling with 64-bit Flash 10 on Gentoo and Debian for months and could never get certain sites to work, always crashed the browser. But after compiling the code - Debian squeeze - in the link and adding to my Iceweasel plugins directory Flash 64-bit works flawlessly.

As a matter of interest I found that the 64-bit plugin only ever crashed when trying to play SWF files that make use of FLV video. Being a web developer and doing a lot of Flash work I've been able to test things. When using YouTube and similar sites these are all streaming, so I did a test. One SWF with a video streaming using the NetStream ActionScript class, and another with the same FLV directly played/linked to. The result was that the NetStream version worked and the FLV version caused a crash, so it would seem that the instructions causing the crash are called during the playback of FLV files ... at least that's been my experience.

Again, thanks for the fix, really pleased! big_smile

Re: [Solved] Browser randomly crashes with flash sites?

I have the new so file created but either its not working or its not linked to the right place. I tried to put the new .so file under ~/.mozilla/extensions and also ~/.mozilla/firefox, but neither of them worked. Is there another place to place this file? How can I use the LD_PRELOAD command? It sounds like it is just not linked properly.

I also completely uninstalled: gnash, flashplugin and firefox and started over installing everything except gnash of course but...Still no luck?

EDIT: DUDE...I HAVE FLASH.....ITS WORKING FINE..FIRST TIME...THANKS big_smile
