kde-4.2.1 freezes when NFS server goes away

Hi,

I'm having an annoying problem with kde-4.2.1. I have mounted some remote shares via NFS. When those become unavailable for some reason (e.g. network connection down) my whole desktop freezes. Even the clock!

It's easily reproducible: Just mount some NFS share and unplug the network cable. Even when using the "soft" mount-option, the desktop will not unfreeze after a timeout, unlike other applications.

This is very annoying. First off, I simply don't get why everything freezes when a remote share goes away. It's OK for applications that were accessing files on those shares. Actually it's even the desired behavior to prevent data loss. But why on earth does my clock freeze when a remote share becomes unavailable?

My user profile is store locally on the machine. The desktop shouldn't care about those NFS shares at all.

Is there something I can do about this? Should I simply file a bug report at kde.org and hope it gets fixed soon?

Many thanks!
