Independent battery/cpu temperature & freq monitor?

Hello,

I would like to use one of the *boxes on my laptop. However, for this I need utilities to monitor/control CPU speed and temperature and battery status.

I'd like to know if anybody has any suggestions of such utilities which do not depend on KDE or GNOME support and can work in the system tray.

Thanks!

For monitoring I would suggest Conky. There is a nice thread with screenies and configs.

Another option is to use 'gkrellm', a GTK-based monitoring system.  I keep looking for replacements for it - a nice, clean, compact graphical system monitor - but consistently come up short.  Conky looks great, but I haven't found the right .conkyrc yet and haven't had time to dig into it fully myself either...

Conky is doing it for the time being. I even wound up using it on GNOME so I could hid the panels and still keep control. Thanks.
