Hello,
I've this problem with KDE: I press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to console and then press Alt-F7 to get to X mode. But then very often the screen goes black (the mouse pointer is working though) and I need to wait for about 20 seconds until the KDE desktop starts working. I've heard rumors that this is caused by the nvidia driver. Does anyone know how to avoid this?
