Hey all! I'm really liking arch linux. That being said, it would be nice if I could get suspend to ram (or disk) working on my laptop (dell Inspiron 1720 with Nvidia geforce 8800m) .
I followed the directions on the wiki for pm-ultils. When I try pm-suspend, my devices like mice and external HD's shut off, but all I get is a black screen with a blinking undercursor - the system does not appear to really suspend. Nothing will bring the system back, and I have to hard reboot.
I tried insatlling uswsusp and followed the directions for that, but get the same result. Here is my /var/log/pm-suspend.log:
Initial commandline parameters:
Wed Mar 11 15:17:58 PDT 2009: Running hooks for suspend.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00auto-quirk suspend suspend: Adding quirks from HAL: --quirk-vbe-post

Wed Mar 11 15:17:59 PDT 2009: performing suspend
I have not put anything my /etc/pm/config.d/ because the wiki was pretty vague and Im not sure what to do there.
I tried using uswsusp s2ram but that does not work. I added uresume to my /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and rebuilt the image to no avail.
s2ram -n shows this:
Machine matched entry 99:
sys_vendor = 'Dell Inc.'
sys_product = 'Inspiron 1720 *'
sys_version = ''
bios_version = ''
Fixes: 0x0
This machine can be identified by:
sys_vendor = "Dell Inc."
sys_product = "Inspiron 1720 "
sys_version = ""
bios_version = "A08"
See http://suspend.sf.net/s2ram-support.html for details.
If you report a problem, please include the complete output above.
which looks to me like I am whitelisted. Am I missing something here? Should I be using one of the DM's power managers? It would be cool just to be able to suspend with a command but if I have to use something else no problem as long as it works.
Running out of ideas, hope you guys can help. Plus the hard rebooting is wrecking my drive, I can see the non-contiguous percent rise each time.
Thanks.

I know this is an old thread and i shouldn't be posting but i have been looking EVERYWHERE for anybody that has successfully installed an 8800M inside of an inspiron 1720... i was just wondering how you went about it???
Thanks.
