DVDs, mplayer and group permissions.

Hello. I have a slight problem playing DVDs. I can mount the drive and access the files just fine, but ran into problems when trying to play DVDs with mplayer. The problem is with the group permissions. It wouldn't even work if I ran it as root, so I changed the /dev/dvd symlink's references' group to 'optical', and added my user to the group. Now it works perfectly, but I still have to run mplayer as root. Changing the symlink's group to optical as well didn't fix it.

Instead of further messing about with things I'm not too clear about, I thought to ask for help wink. Here are the relevant lines in /dev:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root optical       19 2009-03-12 08:04 dvd -> /dev/cd/dvd-3:0:1:0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root          19 2009-03-12 08:04 dvd0 -> /dev/cd/dvd-3:0:1:0
