oss usb sound-card and mplayer

Hello. I have oss installed and when running osstest I have sound from both internal soundcard and my Usb card. I don't know how to enable the usb-card to play my music. I can't get mplayer or vlc to use it. Is there any options that I can give from commandline?

Re: oss usb sound-card and mplayer

Doesn't make any difference. I still hear the sound from the pc and nothing from my stereo to which the usb-card is connected. Now I also get these errors: SNDCTL_MIX_READ: Broken pipe and SNDCTL_MIX_WRITE: broken pipe. When starting up I also have an message about a lot of modules not found ie ALL sound modules. I have prefixed them all with ! and mplayer continues to play music with hdaintel-output. This is a mess. Doesn't oss need any snd modules loaded at all?

You just need to link /dev/dsp to the usb card. Also check ossxmix.

Re: oss usb sound-card and mplayer

Yes, Now that is ok. I do have one more question. I would like to know how to record with this device. I'm using Audacity to convert my LP's to flac- files and it's mainly because of that I need a better sound-card than my onboard one. I wonder if I can link Input from /dev/oss/usb0a9200d1-1 to any of the /dev/dsp that is available in Audacity's options. I seems like Audacity doesn't work with my setup because I did try to link output to /dev/dsp3 and sound was really bad

Re: oss usb sound-card and mplayer

I have no idea, but by looking at my /dev/dsps I find a lot of interesting items like /dev/dsp_in and so on. Experiment with some of them, I don't have an usb card, in order to test it myself.

Re: oss usb sound-card and mplayer

I can record something when linking from pcmin0 but the "timeline" moves increadibly slow and the output is just noice impossible to identify as something near music. Any clue someone?
