I guess I need to go over to NV news and post or file a bug .... 185.13 does the same for my Geforce 7200 (arch64) that 180.29 did -- random screen flickering, and eventual hard lockup. 177.82 works great! Darn, I was hoping they'd fix that
Scott
Edit: Or I can go read the common problems FAQ there and fix it by adding pci=nommconf to my grub line. Well, that was easy. Sorry for the rant, but I didn't have to use that before the 180 series

google earth doesn't work with this driver version, at least for me.. it shows a grey screen, no errors but no planets displayed (^^)..
In fact, I use 3d accelerated driver only for GE and Compiz (this one works fine).. I think I'll return to 180.35 for now.
ps arch64, nvidia 185.13, nvidia 8600m GT

I've been running 185.13 for a number of hours and haven't yet seen any problems. My problems with 180.35 and 180.37 showed up right away.
My card is a Quadro FX 570M in a Thinkpad T-61p, and I'm running KDE4.2.1-1 with QT 4.4.3-5.

I hope it has some cool new stuff, given that it's 185.* now
Probably not this early, but KMS would be killer.
EDIT: Cool, look, some infos. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … &px=NzE0NA

im using kdemod on arch64. after installing these beta drivers x starts up, kde shows the login progress with the fading-in icons, but it does not switch to the desktop after that..

Maybe because i dont use a lot of 3d apps (other than compiz), but i havent had any problems with any of the beta/alpha/pre-release drivers (using 185.13 now). always get nvidia-beta/nvidia-utils-beta (or fix the PKGBUILD) when the new drivers come out.

185.13 seem stable for me in both dekstop, GL (spring) and VDPAU.
I had freezes with probably all 180 drivers but 185 has been fine so far.
I run gnome without composition (--no-composite).

185.13 is still running fine for me after a week.

This driver seems to really improve all aspects of performance for my 9800M card, especially when compiz is running. Without --loose-bindings the speed is almost never laggy. FPS in glxgears hovers around 4700 with this set of drivers while compiz is running and compiz effects are not slowed by the rendering.

anyone runs Google Earth with this driver version? this is the only aspect that keeps me away from hold with this driver version. I get a greyish screen in place of the normal 3d view of the planet

If you are running 64-bit you'll have to rebuild lib32-nvidia-utils-beta for the new version of the driver. If you're on 32-bit then update nvidia-utils-beta.

thanks iBertus, that solved my issue.

did they posted a changelog?

I haven't seen one yet. I'm not sure if this is going to happen until the next release is official.
On another note:
Has anyone else experienced horrible tearing when using the compiz expo plugin? This seems to happen with my laptop regardless of vsync with 185.13. This is the only issue that I'm currently aware of for this beta.

I'm using now the latest beta drivers (185.19, noticed that their out today)
from nvidia with my 8800GT SLI and no problems so far \o/.
The real kicker is that with a recent build of mplayer-nogui-svn
(29119-1 & kernel 2.6.29.1-2) there's no tearing when using VDPAU output.
I used to test this with a couple of h264 720p and 1080p clips...

Im still pissed that my 8800GTS doesnt have VDPAU -_-
Offline
Zariel, the 8800 GTS's don't support VDPAU at all? That seems odd because I thought the hardware was pretty much identical to the GT or am I mistaken?
Offline
Unfortunately, the first 8800 GTS cards had a different chip (G80). The GT and later cards have a G92 chip. No VDPAU for us 8800 GTS owners...
