Brightness: GNOME and SDL apps x keyboard control

Hello,

I have Arch Linux with GNOME, on my Acer 7720-6902. Everytime I try to set the brightness of the screen (by using Fn+arrow keys) above 20%, GNOME insists on returning it to 10%. The only way to go beyond that is by typing 'echo 50 > /proc/acpi/video/OVGA/DD03/brightness' as root.

Also, SDL apps always set the brightness to a very low level (10%). This is extremely irritating.

Any ideas?
