tv thinks the tv-out is 720x480

i am trying to get my tv to have full resolution it is connected via component in the tv-out of my graphics card and the problem is that
no no matter what resolution i set the tv reports 720x480 and boxes it this occurs even if i should choose to 720x480 it still wont show right it shows the desktop wherever the "box" is (i have moved it around with nvidia-settings) it also reports a max resolution of 1024x768 even though the tv supports 1920x1080 i tested on windows and it worked so i think one part of the problem maybe that the tv-out on the gfx card uses a "hybrid component/composite" connector and is trying to use composite instead of the component but that still dont solve why the tv claims 720x480 at all times the tv is a Samsung 32A676 if anyone else has one or similar and have gotten it to work
