My system was orignally an AMLUG 5.1 install updated many times.
I just did an pacman -Su (xorg-6.8.0-2 and qt updated)
Now "All Applications" in KDE menu has "No Entries".
This is only for users, root KDE menu is ok.
The desktop was ok
I googled around
I have removed .kde from the /home/user directory.
KDE menu remains vacant
Anyone have any ideas?

It was one of the recent updates that did it (xorg,qt,zlib, iptables,or xscreensaver). I have it on 2 systems that I just upgraded. The menus are in /opt/kde/... somewhere, I always forget.
The control centre is empty too, so it looks like everything is out. Maybe a permission problem? I have to go to work so I leave it at that.
Edit: This thread is the place to watch.

according to my experiences, xorg is the culprit - i installed the old version and kde is back on track

i can't seem to get the icons to load in the menu or the bar at the bottom, i don't want to downgrade my xorg because that has to be the case, i reinstalled kde and created a new user to test it and it had the same problem. had any luck?
Offline
there is a new xorg build out now, maybe that fixes it, although the other thread claims it is in kde.sh.
Offline
interesting, i did a pacman -Syu earlier today and it was uptodate, but i just did one now and there is a new one, i will atempt to upgrade, but is your kde running fine with the upgraded version?

I just updated to the new xorg and my menus are still there after a reboot. This system never lost them, as I did not upgrade due to all of the problems I had at work on my other arch system. I will try there tomorrow.

just installed the latest xorg...still no menus :?

This one does
/etc/profile.d/kde.sh
export KDEDIR=/opt/kde
export PATH=$PATH:$KDEDIR/bin
export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$KDEDIR/man
if [ ! -z $XDG_DATA_DIRS ]; then
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$XDG_DATA_DIRS:$KDEDIR/share
else
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$KDEDIR/share
fi
if [ ! -z $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS ]; then
export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS:$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
else
export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
fi
Maybe you also need an up to date gnome.sh (the wrong gnome.sh (or the combination with it in a system) which is still existing in the package might also damage the menu)
/etc/profile.d/gnome.sh
export GNOMEDIR=/opt/gnome
export PATH=$PATH:$GNOMEDIR/bin
export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$GNOMEDIR/man
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:$GNOMEDIR/lib/pkgconfig
export LIBGLADE_MODULE_PATH=$LIBGLADE_MODULE_PATH:$GNOMEDIR/lib/libglade/2.0
if [ ! -z $XDG_DATA_DIRS ]; then
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$XDG_DATA_DIRS:$GNOMEDIR/share
else
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$GNOMEDIR/share
fi
#if [ ! -z $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS ]; then
# export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS:$GNOMEDIR/etc/gconf
#else
# export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$GNOMEDIR/etc/gconf
#fi
Restart afterwards to test.

OK ... with new KDE packages the kde.sh seems to be fixed. I can also login as root und menues are up again ... BUT ... if i try to start KDE as user KDE doesn't load. I get the splash screen and very soon i'm back again at KDM . Any solutions?
EDIT: Already deleted the users ~/.kde, but same problems remains.

As I mentionned on another post, I have the same problem. except that I get a terminal instead of going back to kdm. I will try using gdm.

OK seems like a pacman -Syu solved my problem. A new kdeartwork package was installed and i can login as user again . Thanks.

I just found out that it works with gdm. I will try a pacman -Syu since I like kdm better.

It didn't work for me I already had the kdeartwork 3.3.0-2 package. I redownloaded and reinstalled it without success. I will try reinstalling all the kde packages. Any ideas? I had to reinstall kde several time when I upgraded from kde 3.2 to 3.3.

It works now . A pacman -S kde did the trick.

the new update fixed all the problems

Hmm ... i was a little too fast. the update of kdeartwork didn't work. Had the same problem as user that KDE didn't start after a reboot. But found out, that if i login as root, logout and then try it as normal user KDE starts with normal user too.

I still don't have the menu. Only as root.
Is there a solution to this or not? Some people have said that it should help to reinstall kde. Doesn't for me...

Missing icons?
I have extra Gnome icons in my KDE menu, from the Gnome apps I have installed.
Note: I haven't added/removed anything from my menu. It is generated from the files installed by KDE/Gnome applications.

Try upgrading to the newest initscripts package and restarting.

Have you tried pacman -S kde ?
How about using gdm instead of kdm? For me, it worked when I couldn't log with kdm.
[EDIT] Maybe the users can't set up the X display. I had some similar problems when I played with the .Xautorithy files.
