Well i use the bootsplash-initscripts. Ekse i won't get the statusbar running with my bootsplash. But perhaps i have to try the official package.

Have you tried  pacman -S kde ?

Yes i did and it doesn't help.

How about using gdm instead of kdm?  For me, it worked when I couldn't log with kdm.

[EDIT] Maybe the users can't set up the X display.  I had some similar problems when I played with the .Xautorithy files.

Perhaps i'll try gdm, but i like KDM better.

Re: KDE 3.3 menu and update

OK with gdm it works but even the graphical session is rather "ugly" IMHO. So i'll try a fresh install of KDE.

Re: KDE 3.3 menu and update

Reinstall of KDE didn't help. Seems to be a problem with newest KDM sad.

If you are using csh/tcsh as your default shell, check

have you updated all your packages to the latest available version?
you run xorg 6.8.1 kdelib-3 and kdebase-3 ?

I didn't change the shell, so it's the normal bash i'm using. Also updated to xorg 6.8.1. Still same problem.
Well if i have some time i'll check KDM config files in deep.

this post got me on track at last

btw on one of the last kde updates, 2 months ago or something, I lost my panel icons as well (the only thing I coudln't recuperate now), maybe this issue existed for a longer period than most people think... the menu entries etc were intact then though

Re: KDE 3.3 menu and update

LOL .... finnaly found out why i had to login with KDM als root first and then as user and why KDE didn't start when i logged in directly as user:

Blame the package "initscpripts-bootsplash" big_smile! I used it to have an animated bootsplash. But this package is rather old and don't seems to be updated anymore. So i removed today this package and installed default "initscripts" (Did this to get udev working smile.) et voila .... i can login directly as normal user again smile. So my bootsplash isn't animated anymore but login now works again correctly smile.
