Emerald does nothing

I recently reinstalled arch64 and I decided to use xfce. I'm trying to get compiz working, and it can't use xfwm4. when I run "emerald" or "emerald --replace" in the terminal, nothing happens. It just sits there, no errors, no nothing. I'd really like to get  compiz working ,but with xfce it looks like this is impossible without emerald.

Re: Emerald does nothing

I have the same problem. I installed compiz-core 0.8.2-1, emerald 0.8.2-1 and fusion-icon from AUR and libcompizconfig-0.8.2-1 + compizconfig-python-0.8.2-1 with pacman.

Emerald --replace does absolutely nothing. When I launch fusion-icon from the terminal i can see the "compiz (decoration) - Warn: Property ignored because version is 20070319 and decoration plugin version is 20080529".
My video card is nvidia 8600M GT (proprietary drivers are installed).
It's really weird..

Re: Emerald does nothing

I was running compiz standalone for a day or two, this is what my .xinitrc looked like:

compiz ccp&
emerald &
xfce4-panel

Re: Emerald does nothing

Yeah, seems that the latest packages are broken.
I've managed to get emerald and compiz working by installing packages from compz.dream-box.de.
Add this repository to /etc/pacman.conf:

[compiz-fusion]
Server = http://compiz.dreamz-box.de/x86_64

... or i686 if you use 32bit Arch
and install the packages from it:

pacman -Sy compiz-git emerald-git emerald-themes-git fusion-icon-git

Re: Emerald does nothing

2mohaagh.02:
I suggest It isn't required. Solution of the problem is enabling decorator plugin in compiz.

Re: Emerald does nothing

wisecapt, i am pretty sure that I checked the plugin state while trying several emerald/compiz builds, it worked only with the one from git.

Also , as packages of emerald are broken, I would like to ask if it is possible to solve this problem by rebuilding those packages in the mirror sites ?

Re: Emerald does nothing

betawhh, the *-git  stuff works, you should just uninstall the old ccsm, compiz-bcop, compiz-fusion-plugins-extra, compiz-fusion-plugins-main, compiz-manager, compizconfig-backend-gconf and fusion-icon before installing these new packages:
pacman -Rd ccsm compiz-bcop compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-manager compizconfig-backend-gconf fusion-icon

Re: Emerald does nothing

Thank vaskas

I can install those *-git stuff finally but Emerald still doesn't work.

Every plugins of compiz work perfectly but the "window decoration".

Also, when I run "emerald --replace" in the terminal , I get :

Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

and then everything remains unchanged.

Re: Emerald does nothing

I solved it !

The crux of my problem is the setting of "screen" in the xorg.conf

By altering the default depth from 16 to 24 ....

Both Emerald and gtk-window-decorator work perfectly !
