[Solved]KDE 4.2 won't start (KDM does)

Hi there,

I just installed Archlinux today (18th march 2009). I did an xorg and KDE 4.2 clean install. Everything seems to work fine. X server starts, even KDM starts and prompts me my username and password.

However, when I login into KDM with my user and pass, a blank screen appears and then I get to the KDM login screen again, and KDE does not start. I selected KDE as the session on the KDM options.

I've seen the logs of XServer and KDE and nothing seems to be wrong. (again, both the XServer and KDM seem to work fine).

I use x86_64 arch, nvidia drivers on a 8800GTX card. Any idea on what else could I look to have the slightest idea of what can be wrong?

Thanks.

I would try adding the

Option "BackingStore" "False"

option to your xorg.conf, under your video card's section; this is apparently a problem for all nvidia cards, and happened to me on my 7600GT.

...with a crowbar.

Also try starting KDE with startkde from console.  Itmight provide details.

That solved the problem, thank you very much.
