Is there a way to use NILFS as my root partition in Arch64? I want to use it for my ssd.

Well, how about...

Dose Arch x86-64 suport NILFS filesystem?

Awe yes stupid me pacman -Ss nilfs...

Has anyone had any experience with this file system? I would like to hear your thoughts. The test results showed that nilfs was amazingly better then any other file system on a SSD. I am thinking I will give it a shot.

fyi - the current versions of nilfs and nilfs-utils in the community repo are out of date, and also out of sync (2.0.5 and 2.0.6). The nilfs package also does not conform to the usual packaging standards for kernel modules. I'd recommend you flag them out of date, and post a bug about the kernel module package. While you are waiting for the fix, you can build the updated versions for your own use.

Thank you for the info. I created a nilfs partition and it will say it created success but unable to mount. So, ya i think i will uninstall nilfs nilfs-utils and then get the source.

I also tried to see if I could install archlinux to that partition but it would not let me. Maybe do to the same reason I could not mount it. Or is it do to something ells?

My plan to install now is to boot from arch on my hhd/usb and the SSD inside the laptop. Then use "pacman -r" to install arch to the new SSD NILFS partition. I will also install the NILFS kernal module and utils before I reboot in to the new Arch64 on the NILFS /root partition on the SSD.

Do you see a problem with that plan?

With kernel 2.6.30 coming up nilfs will be directly supported. Does this filesystem really "dramatically" increase write speed as this snippet claims?

I never did try it. It is too beta for my taste right now. But ya, It will "Dramatically" increase write speed because every write is a linear write and "Never" a random write. Once the few bugs are worked out it will be the best file-system ever, No joke at all.
