Awesome Freezes

When I start awesome it loads the background pic, and then just freezes. The menubar kind of loads, but there's nothing on it, and the only way to exit is ctrl+alt+backspace

I'm trying to use these configs > http://github.com/stxza/arch-linux-conf … %2Fawesome

any ideas?

Re: Awesome Freezes

Re: Awesome Freezes

Usually this means there is some error in your config...
So if you could post the error messages, as WhiteMagic said it would be a bit easier for us roll

Re: Awesome Freezes

that's the thing, I don't see any messages. I would probably be able to diagnose it if I did. It just freezes, and to get out I have to ctrl+alt+delete out of X, and I'm back where I started.

Do you have the same problem with the default config?

As far as I know, stxza's configs are quite out of date. smile

Re: Awesome Freezes

usually when there's an error in you own config file (.config/awesome/rc.lua), awesome falls back to the default one so there might be something else wrong (x settings etc). have you tried any other wm?

also, when did this problem start - after updateing the system?

Re: Awesome Freezes

i had a similar problem when i was chnaging the default config

what i mean is that i was editing /etc/xdg/awesome/rc.lua instead of copying it to .config/awesome/rc.lua first

then i made a mistake in my config and when i tried to start awesome it would lock up, exactly like you mentioned   (BTW the mistake i made turned out to be one single semicolon out of place)

so my first question is did you keep your default config intact ?

Well then, open the diff in one window and apply small changes in the other.  Restart awesome and see if it still works.  If it does, keep going.  It it doesn't, then you've found your problem.
