Can't seem to get alsa to work. I know my card is detected...alsaconf sees it and everything, but when I try and run amixer I get:

If I try an play something I get:

Forget alsaconf. Post 'cat /proc/asound/cards', 'lspci' and MODULES from rc.conf. Plus anything you might have done in /etc/modprobe.d or /etc/modprobe.conf.

I've found that running alsaconf on a current system breaks my sound until I re-insert all my sound modules (or just reboot). So I'd check that before doing any further troubleshooting.
Also, did you blacklist snd_pcsp from MODULES? That's the most common problem people seem to have nowadays.

it's not alsaconf....the problem started before I ran that.
And so yeah I've rebooted, still nothing

Would happen to have a USB microphone plugged in when you're trying to do this? If so, unplug it before your next restart and see if that magically fixes the problem.

ok I fixed it by just switching to pulseaudio =P.
Now that I've got sound working though, I noticed even though I plug in my external speakers, it still continues to play from the internal ones.
EDIT: nvm, fixed
