Cannot find boot device, cannot continue. HELP!!! [solved]

Somewhere ibetween 03/2008 and 06/2008, the arch installer changed for the worse in some way.

I have tried 02-2009, 06-2888 and 03-2008 on my usb drive in my NC10, the image was written to the usb drive using unetbootin if this makes any difference.

Now, with all the newer installers, it detects the usb drive, and the hard drive, but then spits out "cannot detect boot device, cannot continue."
and returns to the ramfs prompt.

The main reason the obvious solution - use the 03-2008 image - isn't working for me is beyond my fathoming also.

My networking assigns properly, but when I go to select packages, it says that it has failed to update the package list.

This happens for all mirrors...

could someone please help me with this? I need a bleeding edge distro like arch for full hardware support, and I am willing to learn what it takes to get it running well - KDE4 looks perfect on this netbook, it's like they were made for each other .

Okay, basically the problem was that unlike most distros, arch refuses to allow the .iso to be used on a usb drive (at least for installers later than 03-2008).
Had to download the image, and as flashnul refused to work (kept giving me an empty usb drive instead of writing my data), I had to use unetbootin with the img.
That allowed me to boot the latest installer.
