I think

I think

Also,

I've accumulated a lot of strange stuff in my Device / Screen section etc. over the time (still same xorg.conf as with debian), don't know if more of those are required - so here some chaotic but working parts as example:

My dri tag is disabled, and I'm getting the problem too.

Re: problems with compiz

Can you notice if compiz is running (try to grab a window with alt + left mousebutton to drag)?
What does emerald say when started in a terminal?
( "compiz --replace" and/or "emerald --replace" in different terminals )

When I try to start compiz by means of "compiz-manager", it switched to the gtk-window-decorator, so maybe you could
a) check that you've got the compiz kde/gtk-window-decorator installed
b) try fusion-icon or another method other than terminal/compiz-manager to start & config compiz
c) make sure you used the "compiz-fusion" entry in the wiki, not "compiz". Checking the compiz.org website might also help (look setting up hardware / your graphics card / something).
d) perhaps it's just switching the conf method (gconf to flatfile or something) if you call compiz-manager like this and thus it has no plugins at all activated (=> effects / window decorations)

When I first used compiz, it what totally normal that it "spammed" a lot of errors when started like this.

Re: problems with compiz

You have to enable the Windows Decoration Plugin (it is in the Effects Category) from the Compiz Config Settings Manager.

The plugin may not be enabled by default.
