gstreamer audiosink

I have an Echo IndigoDJ, which has 8 vmixers.  They don't just work automagically, though, I have to tell an application to use this or that vmixer.  For example, I successfully have mpd using hw:0,0,2 and it no longer conflicts with Totem and Flash.  Of course, those two still conflict, so I want gstreamer set to hw:0,0,4 (there is no 3).  Using gconf-editor I set gstreamer's audiosink property, but to no avail, it still conflicts with flash.  I tried hw:0,0,2 since it's known to work with mpd, but again, no luck.

Anyone know why?  I am using Xfce, which now uses gstreamer.  Could it be overriding the setting I made in gconf-editor?

And whatever happened to the 'names' function of alsactl?

Regards

Re: gstreamer audiosink

And in a similar vein, I can't find any way to choose the interface for Flash.  I've been searching and searching, but nothing is turning up.

I wish OSS4 had support for my sound card, ALSA just never ceases to piss me off.  If dmix actually worked worth a damn none of this would matter.
