I set up a notebook for my parents, I installed lxde as desktop environment.
I'd like to automount usb keys, but I can't. I am using hal with hot plugging,
the user are part of optical and storage group. Mounting just using ``pmount /dev/sdc'' works fine.
The file manager PCMan adds an icon with the name of the usb key, but clicking on it gives two empty error messages and finally a ''the directory does not exist'' message.
How can I convince pcman to just execute pmount?

I know its possible - but I thought that device-name-only was a thing for floppies and cd's. I believe that, without exception, I have always seen at least _one_ partition on a usb-stick.
Could you post the result of 'fdisk -l /dev/sdc' (and if it shows a partition, your mount command should be 'pmount /dev/sdc1')

If you are using startx to start lxde, change exec startlxde to exec ck-launch-session startlxde.
Normally a login manager like gdm or kdm serves the same role ck-launch-session does (or something along those lines).

I'm the type to fling myself headlong through the magical wardrobe, and then incinerate the ornate mahogany portal behind me with a Molotov cocktail.

@perbh
I do not remember if it was /dev/sdc or /dev/sdc1 but it worked. So I put the correct one...
@Odysseus
I use slim and I exec startlxde, I'll try to change.
Edit: thanks it works fine.
