Is it possible to do any kind of integrity checking with any current, stable FS? and/or on the blocklayer?
According to http://lwn.net/Articles/290141/ (written July 15, 2008) no filesystem can/could do it. There are some things for it in the block layer since .27 but it seems you need hardware support for it.
(see also http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_27#h … 6df1d62dbb )
I'm hoping it can be done with a normal pc, with a normal WD 1TB disk
edit: OCFS2 metadata checksums since .29 (http://kernelnewbies.org/LinuxChanges#head-dc1db7a7be985ed5a2dcef4208e31c7d4d8db457 ) but that's a cluster FS, and metadata only.

I'll do it in userspace with a tool such as AIDE/fswatch/..
