I cannot play DVDs with SMPlayer or Kaffeine.
Here is the terminal output of SMPlayer:
Debug: BaseGui::openDVD
Debug: DiscName::join: result: 'dvd://1//dev/dvd'
Debug: Core::openDVD: 'dvd://1//dev/dvd'
Debug: DiscName::split: disc_url: 'dvd://1//dev/dvd'
Debug: DiscName::split: protocol: 'dvd'
Debug: DiscName::split: title: '1'
Debug: DiscName::split: device: '/dev/dvd'
Warning: Core::openDVD: folder invalid, not playing dvd
Kaffeine puts up an error message saying
01:33:00 AM: xine: cannot find input plugin for MRL [dvd://]
01:33:00 AM: xine: input plugin cannot open MRL [dvd://]
01:33:00 AM: xine: found input plugin : DVD Navigator
VLC plays all DVDs just fine.
Please, what can be the reason for the problems?
PS: I forgot to mention, that I was definitely able to play DVDs with Kaffeine until yesterday. No upgrades on my system were made AFAIK.

Sorry, there was a kernel 2.6.28.8 upgrade that could have caused the problem.

And the solution is: with the last kernel upgrade /dev/dvd has been changed to /dev/sr0 by udev

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just had the same problem even though yours happened six months ago I couldnt figure out how to change /dev/dvd to /dev/sr0 in kaffeine so I did a quick workaround: I removed /dev/dvd and softlinked /dev/sr0 to /dev/dvd and now everything works perfectly. Oddly enough how you said yours didnt work in mplayer or kaffiene but did in vlc, mine didnt work at all in any of them!
