Wireless Works during install.... Does not work after install.

Hiya!

I just finally finished semi-installing from live.  it's exciting.  I'm stuck at cli trying to get wireless to work.

it's really weird.  First-  I only have wireless (it's from my downstairs neighbors).  I used it DURING the install process- downloaded all of the packages, etc etc.

But when I start up my computer, I get a [FAIL] by network (it does not start up).   However, if i # ifconfig wlan0 up, the wireless turns on.

iwconfig does not work
and I cannot scan for networks...

During install, I was able to see the names of every network.

There isn't any sort of password for the router I would like to connect to (and connected to before); it's just a linksys.

My wireless card is intel 5300 and I'm almost certain I installed the 5000 driver package.

Thoughts?

Perhaps I should go to sleeeeeeep..

I don't know, but out of curiosity, did you install wireless_tools on Arch install?

:-(  no

I think it said it was included in the base package install... but I definitely didn't look for it.

I don't really know if it's included in the base by default, but I think it doesn't as it's not a required feature for computers (wired still exists).
You could get an USB and get the package, and then install by Pacman. Or do a new fresh install, whatever fits you.

And remember, one learns from mistakes :-)

wireless_tools is not in the base group:

$ pacman -Qi wireless_tools | grep Groups
Groups : None

@zee: Do you have the wireless interface set up properly in /etc/rc.conf?

YES EEET'S ALIVE!!! i definitely did two errors-  1.  i didn't install wireless_tools.  and 2.  i think i deleted localhost and replaced it with my hostname instead of entering my hostname one space after localhost in host.conf

yes.  yes..  it's working

You've just been sucked into the world of Arch Linux! Watch as your skin becomes pale, your eyes turn square and you suddenly feel compelled to run "pacman -Syu" every 10 minutes big_smile
Must...... keep....... up...... to......date....
