I'd stay with the pdf format myself. It's one of the few formats that actually looks the same across multiple platforms/os's.
I can't think of very many systems that can't read pdfs. Heck, even the kindle2 can read it

My sentiments exactly... and I owe you one by the way.

It's gotta be a format that can be downloaded as a single file...
I know its a lot of work.. so its just a though, maybe the pdf can be an additional medium to the 'online' html format?
kinda like reading a motherboard manual in the pdf form but thats just me!!
keep up the good work.. gonna read it in any format anyway

Ghost, I'm sorry. I couldn't write my article for the magazine due I have been in the hospital for two weeks. I hardly managed myself to get internet, but the docs are looking at me with a very unfriendly face.
Stupid allergy. This time, it almost killed me...
They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Wow!! Thank you for http://www.commandlinefu.com. It is a great resource for all CLI lovers. ++RSS bookmarks
By the way, have you considered adding RSS feature to Arch User Magazine site? Would be great.

I have another idea. It would be really cool to be able to read the articles on a plain old HTML page, too. Then you could add the possibilty to comment on each article.

greeeeeeeeeaaaaat work.
I enjoyed it, all parts and especially the game corner. Have never really thought of playing games under linux, but I will start trying.

I'd use LaTeX and convert that to pdf for distribution personally.

why opening a new web site and especially a forum instead of providing links to pdf files and having a subforum on the arch forum? besides that, i really appreciate what you've done... great work!

It's ok, you take care of yourself (personal life always comes first). You'll plenty of opportunities to write for us.

I thought so too. And it does have RSS, check the footer.

At the moment that's what the forums are for. I've considered doing something like that though. It's just not a huge priority yet.

Because.

Great job, I'm sure it will get even better as more and more people start contributing. I'm hoping I get a little bit of time to play around with Smokin Guns soon, because I've never heard of it and it sounds interesting. As far as the length issue goes, one user-made magazine I saw used a system where they would release it every time they got a certain amount of articles. It also served as a method to increase submissions if I remember correctly, as people wanted to see the goodness contained in the newest mag.

"cd ~" takes you to your home directory.
so does "cd". in bash at least. probably in most other shells too.
I would also prefer a more accessible format like html. It's platform independent, it's a simple accessible format, you don't need to open an extra program for it,...

GREAT effort! Glad to see you care so much about arch!
I think a PDF is limiting as a format though. Usually magazines release a PDF because it's the easiest way to export their pre-print layouts. But in this case it seems like it takes away from the final product.
Options to consider:
Drupal Book Format
A Wiki Format. You could build it like wikibooks, each issue could be worked on by contributors then "locked".
Of course I would LOVE to see an arch printed magazine, but I don't know how big the market is for that ...
(If you need help setting these up let me know)

I still say LaTeX and convert to pdf for distribution. It should also convert to html pretty readily. You can use version control to track it as well.

Very entertaining read. I immediately checked my sshd config and found out that i already hardened my server with most of your tips. I would additionally propose to disable the password authentication and only allow logins with ssh-keys.

I agree. PDF should still be important, because not everyone can be online everywhere...

Ghost1227, excellent work!
It shows that you have spent a lot of time with this issue. The layout is appealing and easy to read. In addition articles did hit the sweetpot. Ada Lovelace Day, creating passwords, software review - good stuff there.
I hope that you find contributors so that this magazine will continue. It is hard to believe that just two guys did all this work

Very nice indeed. I was pleasantly surprised to see that an Arch User Magazine had been released. Downloaded it immediately to check it out.
I like that you have made it available as a pdf file. This is the way I like to read magazines.
Now if only I knew how to write articles Wait maybe I do?! Don't hold your breath though. My job is taking way too much of my time right now, but later... Yes I want to help!
Until then, keep up the good work.

I really like this. If you need some extra staff help, writers, editors, whatever, let me know, as I'd love to be a part. This looks like it has quite a bit of potential.
I'm a block of code, and I approve this message.
