kde suspend works RESUME does not remount root fs

I feel like I am close to having a laptop that can suspend, but when I try to resume, I have what was in ram, and the rootfs is not readable.
I have to hard crash it because I can't even run a shutdown command because it would have to read the disk for the shutdown scripts.

Possibly relevant info:

compaq CQ50-115NR laptop

running Nvidia binary drivers (none of the different versions have seemed to make a difference)

currently running xorg-server 1.6.0 from testing (older xorg-server didn't work either)

running synaptics driver

currently running ZEN kernel, but stock ARCH kernel has same behavior

I am running ext4 for / and /boot

grub references the /dev/sda3 (root) as a UUID as opposed to the traditional "/dev/sda3"

pm-suspend.log shows:

Initial commandline parameters: --quirk-dpms-suspend
--quirk-dpms-on
--quirk-vbestate-restore
--quirk-vbemode-restore
--quirk-vga-mode3

Mon Mar 30 12:33:15 MDT 2009: performing suspend

I have been googling this matter for far, far too long and could really use some help!  maybe it's something obvious?  thanks!

Re: kde suspend works RESUME does not remount root fs

zen does not resume for some time. In contrast, vanilla, or Arch kernel both do. The problem is related to zen patches.

Also the above is mentioned at zen forum and related to nvidia. You may have different card so problem may be different too.

Re: kde suspend works RESUME does not remount root fs

I'm back on the stock ARCH kernel to reduce variables  :-)

I'm pretty sure now, that it's not reinitializing the hard drive / sata controller or modules

any thoughts on this?

Re: kde suspend works RESUME does not remount root fs

is it asking too much to be able to suspend in linux?

Re: kde suspend works RESUME does not remount root fs

hp Pavilion dv5000 (core duo t2500, nVidia Go 74000)
suspend to RAM works, no need to "tweak" anything. I have custom kernel, but I have not modified anything that would have any impact on RAM suspend.
software differences:
I don't use ARCH suspend scripts
I use default Xorg (1.5.3.whatever current in extra)
I use nvidia driver 180.44
I doubt that fs has any impact
I think that the latest nvidia cards have different problems under linux, so you may have some difficulties configuring video card

do you have any recommendations for suspend scripts to try alternately?

Have a look of a program called "s2ram". That's what I use to suspend-to-ram my laptop.

Re: kde suspend works RESUME does not remount root fs

i have tried s2ram, but it gave the same result.  i had to use "-f" to get it to suspend because i'm not whitelisted.

should i try letting my system crash over and over while i try all the combinations of tweaks for s2ram?
