Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

An update on the sound issue... I found out that the front speakers actually work, but only when I'm running X. smile

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Hi, something I have not really seen discussed here.. Has anybody got their One working with a Memorystick (sony memorystick..) in the Right Hand slot.  I have an old (but nice) Sony camera that uses Memorysticks but has a lousy USB speed. So being able to drag pics directly off the stick is a nice, but not essential, for me.

With the original linpus install this worked, so I know it is possible with linux. But I cannot get it working with Arch (and I did some research and could not find anybody achieving this with any distro.) A colleague advised me to 'upgrade to windows' and then ran away laughing big_smile

I have detecting, mounting and hotplugging working correctly for other cards that fit in the adapter (SD card behaves flawlessly) so this is Memorystick specific. Booting with it already plugged in does not work either, and it fails with both the stock and the one-dev kernel. All the following is done with the one-dev kernel (May 10 release + config change to re-enable cpuspeed) because it's very current and easy to build/reconfigure. Apologies in advance because this is a bit long hmm

Aspire One A110, bios 3309, Sony memorystick (MSA-8A, worked with linpus install)
Fails when hotplugged and when system booted with it plugged in.

I have not tried with CONFIG_MEMSTICK_DEBUG set yet.. scared of all the output I might get. Would it be worth doing? If so where should I post it (since I'm sure it will be gobbledegook to me)?

The card is not detected, no /dev/mmcblk1 one devices appear.
Removing the Memorystick from the slot produces no additional output.

I guess the line 'Refusing to bind to secondary interface.' is the error..  Googling for this produces limited info http://www.google.nl/search?q=Refusing+ … =firefox-a.

Inserting a 'normal' SD card (old, also 8Mb) into the same slot works fine:
(and my 'permanent' RH-Slot SDHC card on /home has always worked...)

I wondered if the jmb38x script from linpus did something to enable the memstick, it sets various registers in the interface so I assumed that it must be the secret.
I removed the SD card and rebooted. Downloaded http://petaramesh.org/public/arc/projec … 38x_d3e.sh

As a double-check, I rebooted to the latest stock kernel and modprobed memstick, mspro_block, jmb38x_ms and then pciehp.
Same behaviour as before; SD card works but not memorystick. Logfiles are a bit different but the 'refusing to bind' message is still there.

Does anybody see anything else I could try? or can suggest how to proceed? should I take this to the kernel developers? and if so how best to do that? bug report?
EZ.

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

How do i enable the fn+f4 key to work? I was hoping to make my system suspend upon pressing it...This was the only fn key left which does not work for me...

in .Xmodmap

 keycode 150 = XF86Standby

in .xbindkeysrc.scm

 (xbindkey '("XF86Standby") "__YOUR_SUSPEND_PROGRAM_HERE__")

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

kTT: Do I still need to install xbindkeys and add something on my rc.local just like on the AA1 wiki's suggestion? Thanks

update: just tried it, it still doesn't work. The other fn keys work out of the box on kde...

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Seems the more recent upgrade (probably stock kernel?) has resulted in the wireless not resuming properly.  If I rmmod/modprobe the ath5k this fixes the wireless.  Something needs to go into the suspend/resume directives?

Ooof I had disabled the ath5k line in
/etc/pm/config.d/modules

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Anyone else experiencing problems with movies (xvid, sd) in vlc in fullscreen and the ondemand governor? It just skips too many frames when ondemand, new problem since a month or so. Anyone has a solution besides changing to performance governor?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Anyone had problem with wifi (ath5k with LED patch in 2.6.29).
I lose connections quite often during heavy use of wifi (eg. stream video).

dmesg shows

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cpufrequtils Section: Changing the Ondemand Governor's threshold
this might help.

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

I installed UrbanTerror 4.1.6 from the AUR.
When I fire it up I get  the intro animation and then a Signal 11 resulting in a shutdown.
I'm running stock kernel with glxgears ~650fps.
Should I be using a different package or something?

Yap, same problem here. At home i have a WEP security, at work its WPA, but even in open networks the result is the same. Today i was trying to update my arch, and i had to use cable connection because the wireless was reconnecting all the time.  No other laptop does this in my networks, so i assume it must be something wrong with my AAO... On the other hand, now i always connect to the networks with 54Mb/s speed. I normally use the custom kernel from tera, but it's the same thing with the stock kernel. At least the led works.. "oooohhh look at the pretty light blinking", lol.

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

The left Wifi LED on my AAO 150L doesn't work with 2.6.30 Stock and -one-dev Kernel. I also made a new Kernel based on Teras one-dev for 2.6.30. Also here the LED doesn't  work. Do i miss something?

I think the left LED should indicate if the ath5k card is enabled or disabled, shouldn't it?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Hey all I installed Arch on my Acer Aspire One D250 and everything is working great except video. I have tried the stable drivers in extra and the xf86-video-intel-git. I get better performance with the git drivers but still nothing compared to what most people are saying. Glxgears gets a maximum of 300fps with XFCE compositing on and 200fps with it off, which is a conumdrum to me.

I know that the D250 (with windows at least) allocated graphics memory dynamically. Could this be the problem?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Now that is weird, on my A110 with (Gnome) turning compositing in Nautilus ON is the thing that hammers my glxgear score.. nearly halving it in fact.  Having the score drop when turning it off seems.. perverse.
What happens if you run with no Xorg config file at all (the system should auto-detect everything then.)

It's the same effects, I'm figuring since it allocates graphics memory dynamically, thats why with compositing it goes up, but still I get only ~15 fps in extremetuxracer and neverball runs at about the same.  I have the graphics tweaks recommended in the wiki in place, besides the exa since UXA support is enabled for my card and the option isn't even available to change it anymore. (xf86-video-intel-git).

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

Hummm.. I would not use windows mode of operation to draw any conclusions about how this works in Linux, it might be the same, or radically different, maybe others here know more.

I would also be careful about comparing your system to other peoples glxgears results, unless they are on identical hardware -and- you trust them.. Benchmark results are the classic BS'ers paradise..
- It's an acceptable benchmark for comparing 'before and after' effects of changes to the same system, and is possibly acceptable for comparing different linux installs on identical hardware.
- But glxgears results mean nothing if the hardware or OS architecture differ.

I'm not even sure if the D250 has the same hardware architecture as the A110, or if it is just the atom chip that is common. So therefore mentioning that I 'only' get 230fps in gears does not really mean much. And I'd have to qualify that by adding that it is an A110L, in Gnome, with the one-dev kernel, KMS and I have nautilus's simple internal compositing engine enabled.

The bottom line is that I find that quite acceptable, the desktop animates fast enough, DIV-x plays fullscreen, the curse of monkey island runs well enough in SCUMMvm (but not fullscreen, thanks to KMS which disables the mode switching in it). Based on that I consider the video performance to exceed my needs, and have never tried tweaking it.

Since you are trying to game I guess you really do need to maximize your scores but I can't really help much, there is nothing in the config or logs above to point out a 'cause' to me. And I'm not experienced enough to know what to check next.. sorry.

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

I have some problem with left cardreader.

In the left cardreader I mount /home  (ext2 fs) on my SDHC card.

Sometimes, during check of file systems in sturtup, I see the message stands out that the file system on a card (/dev/mmcblk0p1) is damaged (can`t find superblock). And the system passes in a maintenance mode.

But if I start fsck manualy, thereis no problems.

Moreover, I in a file rc.sysinit have made repeated check fsck and the second check always passes successfully, the system is loaded and normally further works.

On a kernel 2.6.31-rc5 such problem appears often, on a kernel aspire-one is very rare

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

hi, today i've configured my acer aspire one with gnome and xfce4 but i've a small problem that some windows go belowe my panel and the only fix is to set the system font to 7 size or 8, but also with 8 some window in xfce for example the window configuration dialog appears in the final part below the panel, so which font are you using?

Re: Acer Aspire One part 2

I use a 9pt font. But if anything is too big for the screen, just Alt-click anywhere on the window and move it.
