Beginner's guide?

How do I run the beginner's guide after getting past the install script?

Re: Beginner's guide?

when you install arch, you can alt f2 and run /arch/arch-linux-official-guide.txt

I was wondering if I could use the beginner's guide instead, it is more detailed.

Re: Beginner's guide?

Afaik the /arch/arch-linux-official-guide.txt file is generated from the guide on the wiki.

Either way it's currently the only documentation available "offline" on the installation medium

Re: Beginner's guide?

From the guide itself:

The official install guide is available on the live system. The official guide covers installation and configuration of the base system only. Change to vc/2 with <ALT>+F2 and invoke /usr/bin/less:

# less /arch/arch-linux-official-guide.txt

less will allow you to page through the document. Change back to vc/1 with <ALT>+F1.

Change back to vc/2 if you need to reference the Official Guide at any time.

Re: Beginner's guide?

What's the point of the beginner's guide if I can't read it while installing? sad

Is there anyway?

The Installation Guide is like the Begginner's but with less crap, and less explained, getting you directly to the point. The Begginer's Guide can be read before installing, to get some hints of what to do.

By getting past the install script I assume you have Arch base installed and are running from it.   If so, you can install Lynx (a text only internet browser) and navigate to the Arch Linux wiki.

# pacman -Sy lynx

Re: Beginner's guide?

Which iso (eg 2009.2) are you using?  When you are booting the disk the first screen says where the guide is located. This guide is enough IMO to install Arch Linux which is simple and clear. Log in to another console and type less /arch/arch-linux-official-guide.txt and see your self the guide is there or not big_smile
