Problems maximizing windows [Gnome 2.8]

Hi !

I´m running a fresh install of AL with Gnome 2.8 (from testing), all works great except that when I maximize a window it covers all the screen, hiding the gnome panels.

Any idea ?

Regards.

The Problem:

I discover the problem...

It only happens when I use xcompmgr for the eyecandy edges and fade in/out windows, I will fill a bug report.

I've heard of this bug before, it's probably well known, and has nothing to do with Arch.

I only go that bug when trying to run xcompmgr...  If i don't run xcomp gnome 2.8 in testing runs just fine...

Re: Problems maximizing windows [Gnome 2.8]

Does anyone have any idea where to find more info on this subject?  I finally have an nvidia card and the transparency is running FAST with renderaccel.... BUT not being able to maximize windows is driving me up the wall (Gnome2.8)

Gnome forums are so hideously awful that I don't think a search there is worth the time....

EDIT:

It seems its not a gnome but a Metacity problem...  other than finding this out... I've been entirely luckless in determining whether a cure is out there or when there might be some investigation into this issue....

Gnome2.8 in extra repo seems have solved the problem even when xcompmgr is running. I have not met such problem after upgrade.

I had this problem when starting xcompmgr inside an already running gnome-session, start it before and you will have 0 problems (iirc)

Re: Problems maximizing windows [Gnome 2.8]

He is right guys.

xcompmgr -c &
exec gnome-session

Did just the trick for me, great looking shadows, perfect fonts, and now no maximizing problems.

O and BTW: Im running a Geforce2 MX400 64MB AGP, added

Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
    Option "RENDER" "Enable"
EndSection

and

Option "RenderAccel" "true"

to my xorg.conf and its running like a champ!

Re: Problems maximizing windows [Gnome 2.8]

Ok so this may not be such a great idea AFTER all... I found out that if I dont kill xcompmgr before logging out of gnome it will freeze. So, I guess you could do what i did but remember to kill xcompmgr if you want to be able to use log out from gnome menu

hm I think I tried this before, and I like you I thought gnome froze, when actually I discovered that the "are you sure you want to logout" dialog was just invisible and I just had to press enter to log out...

Thanks for that tip! although I do like being able to SEE my logoff menu I guess its better than having to kill xcompmgr! Thanks again

P.S. anyone know how to remove the max-min animations in Gnome 2.8? they seem to mess with the shadows but every option I find doesnt turn them off! Thanks in advance.
