Installed Arch on my buddy's laptop, hangs on boot

Hi thanks in advance, I installed arch on my buddy's laptop, and all went well, got it to the gnome desktop and everything.  However when he boots, right after the Dell POST, the cursors just blinks in the upper left hand corner, and does nothing.  Now, if you hits the <boot option> key and chooses hard drive, then it works fine.  Im thinking this is a grub issue that somehow got broken in the install/upgrade process.  Tips / Hints / or Suggestions please?

Is hard drive on the boot list in the BIOS?  If it is, is the boot list in good order?

urxvtc / wmii / zsh / configs / onebluecat.net
Arch will not hold your hand

I will check that, thanks, but I doubt the list in the BIOS itself is messed up

is there a cd in the drive?

if your biso is set to boot from cd first and there is a cd in the drive it does that
