Re: Acroread doesn't start after installation from AUR

acroread is distributed only in binary form for i686 architecture. So it won't work on x86_64, and it fails with precisely with the error you're getting.

So either install bin32-acroread (in AUR), or set up a 32bit chroot.

Re: Acroread doesn't start after installation from AUR

thanks, bender02!
Well, here is what I did:
$ sudo pacman -Rs acroread
$ yaourt -S bin32-acroread
$ acroread
/opt/acrobat/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading shared libraries: libxml2.so.2: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

So I installed lib32-libxml2
$ yaourt -S lib32-libxml2
finally I got acroread WORKED, however, here are the long warning information:  Any suggestions?
$ acroread

Re: Acroread doesn't start after installation from AUR

I think you want lib32-scim and lib32-gtk-engines.

Re: Acroread doesn't start after installation from AUR

Yes, whenever you get a "wrong ELF class ..." warning, it means (in this case) that the program is trying to load a library, but only finds a 64bit version, while it would really want a 32bit one. So installing lib32-<whatever_package_that_has_that_library> should fix this.
[Hint: you can use 'pacman -Qo /full/path/to/the/64bit/lib' to figure out to which package it belongs to.]

This shows the problem. Make sure you have some fonts installed (inside the chroot), and maybe also the same gtk engine that you're using outside in the 64bit system (since your home directory inside the chroot is probably (with the default schroot config) linked to your normal home dir, which means that the stuff like gtk theme settings inside the chroot will try to be the same as outside).
