So I've run into some wonderful "features" I thought I would point out.
1) fluxbox + composite : while this setup is nice and all, there is a big problem. windows stay layered (z-index) as they are created. For example, if I create an aterm, then xmms, then an xterm, the aterm will always be behind the other two, xmms will be infront of the aterm and behind the xterm, and the xterm will always be on top. <tounge-in-cheek>HOORAY</tounge-in-cheek> composite extension removed (for now).
2) firefox: currently the arch package is version 0.9.3, however mozilla now distributes a gtk installation program for firefox, which is pretty nice. The problem, with both of these (0.9.3 and 1.0PR) involves something very simple. I no longer have a "Tools > Options" menu item. Yeah, I can use about:config to set everything, yet this involves trying to figure out where the setting is and what values it could have (browser.tabs.tabLayoutOrder: 7....what?).
Has anyone else experienced the firefox problem? And in addition, is there a plan to put 1.0PR in any arch repo (a TUR)?

Since some time in the past firefox options have been under Edit > Preferences for linux builds. This is in order to comply with the gnome HIG.

sweet jebus I feel dumb about that one. but thanks. haven't used firefox under linux in a while... had a non-GUI setup for a while.
besides that, the composite part is still borked. I'll be throwing some info at the fluxbox people soon to try and get this fixed.

If you didn't try the latest CVS version of Fluxbox, then do so (best to backup/move your config if you're using the old version).

You can run fluxbox stable and fluxbox cvs side by side without any problems. The cvs version installs to /opt to make this possible.

There are some weird problems with Composite enabled on new X.org with fluxbox. To workaround them, set the slit layer to "Desktop" (flux menu -> Configure -> Slit -> Layer -> Desktop), OR apply this patch:
