Cannot find scanner

Hallo all,

I wasn't sure where to put this, so here it is. I have a Microtek ScanMaker 3700, which according to the their list is supported by SANE. However, whenever I run either "scanimage -L" or "sane-find-scanner" it only finds my webcam. I've added myself to the scanner group, logged out/logged back in, rebooted with the scanner on and nothing ever works.

Is there some other command I can run to see if Linux even sees it's plugged in outside of SANE?

Thanks!

Hmm.. ok, I just opened up the log and it didn't change at all when I unplugged the scanner and plugged it back in... I also don't see any errors here.

So I guess it's a hardware issue...

Although I am missing the scanner module from my kernel and trying to load it fails. I dunno if it's even needed, I was just looking through the SANE docs.

Re: Cannot find scanner

dmesg ALWAYS shows some lines when there is a plugged and unplugged device. Try lsusb and if your scanner isn't there either, most likely you have a non-working cable.

Re: Cannot find scanner

*nods* It's not the cable since that one works with my printer, too. I think it might be the scanner itself. Or it's the power supply. When I turn it on the light on the front also turns on, but it's faint and it goes off after a while. The most I can get out of it is the light turning on when Linux boots.

I got the scanner for free from a friend and he seems to have lost the power adapter so I am using the one he gave me... and that might be the wrong one even though it's the required number of volts. I'll have to ask him about it.

Thanks, guys!
