Graphical Text Editor for XFCE4 ?

I tried installing GEdit, but it asked to install 40mb of other stuff, and as far as I know, Kate and KWrite are part of kde-base. Is there any simple text editor (for use in XFCE4) that is just a couple of MB ? I'm rather stringent about diskspace (which is why I chose Arch -- I can install *exactly* what I need, and not have unused crap lying around).

So far I'm completely in love with my current config (XFCE4, Firefox, qiv, ROX, XMMS, gaim), and if I could find a simple text editor (along the lines of Kate [from kde] or gedit [from gnome]), then everything will be perfect

I tried google, but couldn't find anything interesting.

Any suggestions?

I like nano, even though it's CLI. It's extra simple, and you don't need to read the manual to use it.

You can also try gvim. It's really not that difficult to use once you learn a few basics. Also you'll be hard pressed not to fine it's sibling vim in most distros.

Is it just me, or does anybody else find the phrase "graphical text" to be kind of funny?

JEdit may be what you want... IF you have Java installed anyway. Otherwise forget it for disk space.

xemacs, gvim...

of course, we all prefer xterm with YFTE (your favourite text editor). Graphical is so... windows...

I usually use emacs but it is quite big (pkg is 15 MB).
There is also nedit.

I use nedit. Sure its a bit ugly as it uses motif which is drab, but you can pretty it up a bit - there is a guide in the (nedit) wiki.

Its very feature rich and you can even get tabs if you use the development version (I use abs to grab this).

mctavish & jochen: thanks I've installed both scite and nedit. I'll use them for a week, and I'll keep the one I like better. They're both exactly what I had in mind.

I'd recommend leafpad and katoob. Both use GTK2 and so will fit perfectly to your XFce4 desktop.
