Dell Manual Fan rpm Control

Greetings all,

I was wondering if its possible to get mah box to temporarily run fans at full speed whilst about to shutdown/hibernate/suspend. Then return control back to the bios/what-ever on boot/resume.

However, I can not find any relevant proc files that i can echo to, and the i8k daemon doesnt seem to allow manual rpm control.

Is there any way to set fan rpm? Btw, Im on a Latitude D530.

Thanks

Hmmm, on further though, I think fan rpm might be controlled by writing to a certain address...

If this is the case, does anyone have some info on the address and data encoding? -- I dont mind writing a little app to get this working wink

Thanks

Allan, those packages (i8kmon and i8kutils) seem to require /proc/18k, which doesn't exist on my system. Some modules I need to load, or I need recompile my kernel with dell notebook support?

Re: Dell Manual Fan rpm Control

This is'nt what you're asking for but I use the package built from the address Allan gave and i can set the temperature at which the fans are on slow or fast, (Sorry I cant describe it better). It wont run your fans on full at shutdown or anything fancy, just run the fans when the temps reach the level you specify in /etc/rc.local.

I can upload the dellfand file for you if you wish.
