help with Awesome

Hi,
I'm new to awesome. I need to help with couple of things.

1. Set master window
   tag 1 ... firefox
   tag 3 ... thunderbird
2. I really don't know how to set set widgets - cpu, ram, net, mpd... I looked at Awesome Reference and wiki but without success.

You should have posted this to the right subforum .

1) Have a look at apptags in 'rc.lua' . There is even a commented example :

-- Applications to be moved to a pre-defined tag by class or instance.
-- Use the screen and tags indices.
apptags =
{
    -- ["Firefox"] = { screen = 1, tag = 2 },
    -- ["mocp"] = { screen = 2, tag = 4 },
}

2) Install 'wicked-git' from the AUR and read the manual . You can also read the wiki :
