evil open/save dialog eats my CPU

has anyone else experienced this?

each time a open/save dialog pops up, my system slows down to a crawl for about 2~5 sec. i googled it without luck then decided to ignore it. now it's just unbearable.
i have archlinux with x+gome installed on 2 systems(2*1.86GHz, 2*2.5GHz), and BOTH suffer from that same irritating problem. everything else works exceptionally fine.

like many people, i ditched ubuntu because it was turning into another bloated vista. however, ubuntu did not have this problem. so i know it's not a hardware problem. i'm starting to suspect gnome since the problem persists no matter what program i run.

can anyone help?

Re: evil open/save dialog eats my CPU

just installed fluxbox, and the open/close dialog is FAST!
in fact, everything is fast! i think i'm going to switch to fluxbox smile
anyways, i started nautilus (the set wallpaper and desktop icons popped up), and then tested the open/close dialog again. it was still working fast.

if nautilus isn't to blame, i don't what is...
