Something wrong with pulseaudio after update

Hi,

After upgrading my packages pulseaudio won't work anymore.
I can still open alsamixer and play sound purely on alsa when I delete the entries in /etc/asound.conf

I'm really close to abandoning PA. Almost every update gives me problems...

Re: Something wrong with pulseaudio after update

Pulseaudio needs to be rebuilt against libcap. I think there is a bug report already but you might want to check.

Re: Something wrong with pulseaudio after update

I solved the problem with:
ln -s /lib/libcap.so /lib/libcap.so.1

But proper way should be, as Snowman suggested, rebuilding pulseaudio.

Never symlink libraries like that. You risk breaking your system.

@Snowman

I use it just as temporary solution. Can you just briefly explain how can such symlinking break my system? (if it's not too offtopic)

The reason the number changed is because it's incompatible with the old version somehow. If you run into one of those incompatibilities, it will break something, and it might happen a long time later, once you've long forgotten you made the link. Then nobody will be able to figure out what's wrong, and you'll be very unhappy.
